LESCO Performance Comparison with other DISCOS
LESCO is one of the important electricity distributors in Pakistan under WAPDA. It provides energy to the largest and most highly densely populated districts of the Punjab. In Lahore only alone, there are millions of electricity consumers. Because Lahore is the capital city of Punjab, many important places like big Hospitals, hotels, public universities, and other institutions are located in Lahore. These places use a lot of power to enhance the work facility. In comparison to other energy supplier companies, LESCO still has better performance but faces a lot of hardships to meet rapidly increasing population needs efficiently.
LESCO Performance in Comparison to others DISCOS
Invoice and payment
LESCO is typically better than many other DISCOs, like MEPCO (Multan Electric Power Company) or GEPCO (Gujranwala Electric Power Company), in receiving cash. Lahore has many people whose income is much better than others. This helps LESCO to make a sensible report of collections per month. On the other hand, under DISCOs rural and poverty areas do not pay their bills on time due to less source of income. As a result, DISCOs made less cash per month.
Technical and Line Losses
LESCO has been working for better performance upon line losses. Because, when electricity is generated and transmitted to other sectors, it is lost in greater amount. The company has invested money to reduce this loss and to make the new design and use new technology. This is the major problem that sets it apart from many other DISCOs. But in DISCOs, there are also high rates of technical and power losses. Some of the DISCOs have too much older equipment and technology that affects their quality and performance.
Customer Service
LESCO also has a front desk related to the customers. People face many problems like check duplicate bill, paying bills, electricity problems, meter reading issues, etc. Since Lahore is the busiest city, people need more effective and better service of electricity to meet their demands. In comparison, DISCOs have been still working on this service so that the users of DISCOs can complain about any issue regarding the power.
Technology Use
LESCO is a faster and emerging field in technology. It has adopted many new tools which make the life of a station and its users easier. These technologies make the LESCO more reliable and presentable for consumers. On the other hand, DISCOs has not acquired new technology for the system, and it is still facing difficulties in regard to generating slips, reading bills, grid renovation etc.
Challenges Lesco Faces
Being good as other DISCOs, LESCO also has some difficulties that are still facing currently:
Power Theft
In some areas of the Lahore division, stealing electricity is still common practice. People of such areas of LESCO do this at a higher rate because they do not have much money to pay bills and other taxes of LESCO; LESCO also has taken some steps to this moment, but not in vain. It results in a great loss of money and power by wrong use. Nowadays, LESCO has adopted some technologies to reduce power theft.
System Overload
As the population of Lahore city is increasing day by day, it becomes more challenging for the LESCO to overcome the load of electricity. Especially in summer, when the sun is on the head, consumers of LESCO demand a higher rate of electricity. Still, LESCO has many capabilities to give extra power to the citizens. In the end, LESCO started to overload the system when it did not fulfill the needs of the people.
Political and Regulatory Challenges
Like the DISCOs, it is very difficult for the LESCO to neglect government policies. Every day a new policy is made, and the price of the units of electricity is increased. So, making the power station stable is a lot of challenging for Lesco due to the policy.
Lack of Consumer Awareness
The people living in our surroundings are not too educated. Actually, they do not know how to use the power manually. LESCO has made a higher step regarding this site so that the consumers will get awareness and not produce so much higher rate of consuming power. If the consumers of electricity become literate and come to know how to use the electricity, not only LESCO but others can also show a good reputation in their work.
Climate Change and Weather
Due to the change in weather day by day it has increased as we moved towards the summer. Generally, in Lahore, there is a lot of heat during the summer season because every time, Lahore remains busy the whole day and night. So due to abundant heat, LESCO sometimes overloads the system or does load shedding to overcome the grid station stable for its life cycle.
Final Words
LESCO, with respect to other DISCOs, is much more reliable for its use. Also, LESCO is moving to emerging new technologies to produce better service for the consumers. LESCO has some disadvantages, which are power theft, load shedding, overload and higher rates of electricity. But it is still moving to educate the consumers on how to use electricity so that it can better its service for the people.
